Derawan Festival and Sail Komodo 2013

Jakarta, June 19, 2013 - Government of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) held a grand launching "Derawan Festival 2013" at the Hall Soesila Soedarman, Sapta pesona Building, Jakarta.

Derawan Festival 2013, which will take place in June - September 2013 is part of a series of "Sail Komodo 2013" which was held for the construction and development of marine resources and tourism potential of Indonesia in bringing about improvements in public welfare, her special coastal communities and small islands at once in order to enrich the 68th Independence Day.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu said, Derawan Festival 2013 is part of the Sail Komodo 2013 that was held in an effort to make Derawan Island as a tourist destination and sports facilities with its world-class diving spot. "Through Derawan Festival 2013 we expect to encourage potential and accelerated development of the region through improved infrastructure such as roads, airports, ports, hotels, restaurants, and other facilities that will improve the welfare of the community, together with the Governor Kaltim said Mari  and H. Faroek Awang Ishak told at the press conference.

Let's say, in the 2012-2014 Strategic Plan has been established 16 Kemenparekraf target market, 7 special interest or thematic (Tourism History and Culture, nature tourism and eco-tourism, Culinary Tourism and Shopping; Tourism Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition / MICE; Holidays Sports and Recreation; Tourism Health and Wellness), and the National Tourism 16 strategic areas (KSPN) such as Tanjung Puting, Central Kalimantan, which are located adjacent to the island Derawan. "Thematic Tourism has the potential to improve the quality of tourists because they tend to stay longer and spend more" Mari said.

Awang added, Derawan Festival 2013 with the theme "Derawan for the Future", became an international promotional program to introduce the wonders of Derawan Islands as part of a campaign visit Wonderful Indonesia and East Kalimantan "the future we want to create a strategy to increase new economic resource, namely improving development with a thematic tourist attraction spot Diving at Derawan Island and other islands.

"Derawan Festival 2013" will be held a number of activities such as diving kejurnas, Live On Board (LOB), yacht, sailboat rally (yacht raly); screen and Windsurfing Championship, seminars on special interest marine tourism, fishing games, bhakti health, special interest tourism exhibitions, and stage entertainment.
