Tourism Minister Employs Strategies to Attract Foreign Tourists

Tempo- Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said enhancement of strategy and marketing tactics are important in facing ASEAN Economic Community at the end of 2015. “Marketing is important to attract tourists to visit Indonesia,” he said on Thursday, September 17.

In marketing Indonesia’s tourism, the government utilizes branding strategies which are "Wonderful Indonesia and Pesona Indonesia. “ We implement marketing strategies that consist of destination, original and time.”

Arief said tourism sector in ASEAN is bright with number of visits reaching 90.2 million with growth of 12 percent since 2013. “The number of visits to ASEAN consist of 60 percent from ASEAN countries and 32 percent from other Asian countries, such as China, Japan, Korea and India,” he said, adding that effective marketing tactic is needed to seize ASEAN market.

According to Arief, most of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia have been dominated by ASEAN countries. “Almost 50 percent.”
